Cryogenics, or ultracold freezing, is not a new idea, and with a couple of exceptions, the equipment used is similar to that of 25 years ago. Liquid nitrogen, or occasionally liquid helium, is retained in a cryovessel or dewar. Plastic tubes containing material to be preserved are chilled either by immersion in the liquid or by being kept in the gas or vapor phase, which results from the boiling of the liquid. A variety of devices for holding and retrieving samples, as well as their form, determines how large the opening in the dewar is and how long the dewar will last. An environmental test chamber is used to test the effects of specified environmental conditions on biological items, industrial products, materials, and electronic devices and components. An environmental test chamber can be used to also evaluate product quality and reliability, and identify manufacturing flaws and weaknesses. By simulating environmental conditions within a contained space, the chamber offers test results that can show the process of product decay and degradation and help predict the potential lifespan of a product or material. Sterilizers, or lab autoclaves, are devices used to sterilize equipment and supplies. Lab autoclaves sterilize lab glassware and other consumables with high pressure saturated steam at 121°C. If using steam is not recommended, you can also sterilize using dry heat. Select a dry heat sterilizer for metals and delicate items without the worry of corrosion or distortion. Dry glass bead models destroy microbes in seconds. They are perfect for small solid metal and glass implements.
